This is my entry for

's "Not All Kings Wear Gold" art contest. These two characters are Kristoff (werewolf/human on the left) and Sali (Shaftan, a winged elf on the right), as I understand it they counterbalance each other. I derived this image from the character descriptions...

"Kristoff also takes responsibility for the day-to-day comfort of Julian's chosen companions, among them a boy named Sali. In part because of Sali's childish naivete, Kris has become his guardian as well, seeking to protect him from an unforgiving and at times confusing world. Sali trusts and looks up to him very much, and would do anything Kris asked of him. Sali's youthful exuberance complements Kris' characteristic calmness and restraint in both speech and action." Sali is what keeps Kris under control, and Kris takes care of Sali~

I see it as you paint it and watch it reach this level, but it never fails to stun me just how amazing the things you create are... Or how much progress you make every single time you make something new.

The explaination and qoute adds alot of meaning to the art, I really love how it turned out.

Love your backgrounds Alayna! I'm not sure if the pair works together well, they seem very disconnected. Why are they looking away from eachother? Could be a nice intimate piece if they were looking at eachother or atleast the same direction. Also, gotta make a note on your characters pant sizes, what does it mean when theyre draggin on the floor? XD

Wonderful work. The lighting colours on this really give the picture a good effect; I like how you've combined two different coloured sources, and how you've conveyed them with the lighting throughout the picture (especially on the skins and the building they're both on). The interaction between them is unusual, but effective- even though they're looking away, the hands connect them well.
